2019 PGA Championship: The best of the PGA Championship Merchandise Store

Best in Golf

Souvenirs are an important part of any event and the golf world is no different. It’s become almost an expectation that if you attend a major, you have to bring home some swag. As merchandise tents grow larger and the offerings more diverse, it’s pretty easy to find a unique gift for everyone on your list. The PGA Shops at the 2019 PGA Championship provide a shopping experience unlike any other. From photo ops with the trophy to customizable gifts, it’s a necessary stop before you leave Bethpage.

We caught up with PGA of America Sr. Director of Merchandising and Licensing, Mike Quirk to tour the tent before the tournament began. Quirk and his team work to organize the tent for an exciting shopping experience. He describes the store as “PGA Championship meets PGA Show.” It’s also important to Quirk that golfers and non-golfers alike can find something they want in the shops. The merchandise floor is organized by product type and brand. “People want to watch golf,” Quirk said. “We want them to come in, get what they want and get back on the course.”

The PGA Shops opened the Friday before the tournament and will remain open until 6pm on the final round. Over 850 volunteers staff the 60,000 square foot shop.

Merchandise tents have also made a move toward making player scripting available for purchase. Superfans can buy the same shirt their favorite players are wearing, including Tiger Woods’, Jordan Spieth’s and Rory McIlroy’s.

Nike Mock Neck Shirts, $85
One of the first displays upon entering the massive merchandise tent is of the iconic Tiger Woods mock neck Sunday red shirt. The addition of a PGA Championship logo helps with the style risk, if you’ve been interested in trying out the trend. Woods will wear the shirt on Sunday, his other scripting is available in the tent as well

Polo Ralph Lauren “CYO” Totes and Water Bottles, $40
Also near the entrance is a Polo Ralph Lauren station where you can create custom PGA Championship items to include your name or a message of your choice. Design your item digitally at the booth and they’ll make the unique water bottle or tote on the spot.

Oversized Golf Balls, $12
These kickball-esque oversized golf balls have become a staple in any merchandise tent. For $12, choose from a black trophy covered ball or a white ball with the iconic warning sign printed on it. The white ball is great for kids that’ll be scavenging for player autographs during the week. The black one might be tough to get signatures, so be sure to pack a silver Sharpie if that’s the case.

For the duration of the tournament, Ryder Cup merchandise will be available on site. After this week, you won’t be able to get your hands on this stuff for at least another three years, according to Quirk.

Women’s Apparel, $32-175
Women’s souvenir apparel has come a long way in recent years. Merchandise tents have moved with the trends to offer pieces women can wear both on and off the course.
