With a victory on Sunday at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Brendon Todd will pocket the $1.82 million first-place prize money payout. That’s quite the winner’s check for a journeyman pro who was considering giving up the game to open up a pizza franchise not all that long ago.
To get a better idea of just how big a payday that would be for Todd, consider this. The 35-year-old has played nine seasons on the PGA Tour prior to 2019-’20. In only one of those (2013-’14) has he earned more than $1.82 million for the entire season.
Here’s the sobering breakdown of Todd’s yearly earnings:

And so the $1.82 million prize money payout would be more than Todd made in seven of his first nine years combined.
The $1.82 million would also increase Todd’s overall earnings during the 2019-’20 season to $4.616 million, as this would be his third win after taking the Bermuda Championship and Mayakoba Golf Classic titles in the fall. By almost any definition, that would be considered a “career” year, but especially so for Todd considering his earnings from this season alone would be 40.79 percent over his all-time earnings on the PGA Tour.
Being a WGC event, the prize money payout for all the golfers at TPC Southwind is rather handsome. The overall purse is $10.5 million. Here’s the prize money payout for every place in the field.
