The Workday Charity Open is the first of back-to-back events at Muirfield Village, and will see seven of the top 15 players in the world competing in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Dublin this week. The event replaces the John Deere Classic, which was on the PGA Tour schedule before COVID-19 setbacks forced its cancelation; the Deere is slated to return in 2021 for its 50th playing.
Patrick Cantlay, who won Muirfield Village’s actual annual tour stop, the Memorial, a year ago, will return to the vaunted course to play in the Workday, along with No. 2 Jon Rahm, No. 4 Justin Thomas and No. 5 Brooks Koepka. Koepka will be playing for the first time since withdrawing from the Travelers Championship two weeks ago as a precautionary measure after his caddie tested positive for the coronavirus. Koepka’s brother, Chase—who Monday-qualified for the Travelers but then dropped out for similar safety reasons—will also play in Ohio thanks to a sponsor’s exemption.
Three tour pros who previously tested postitive for COVID-19—Denny McCarthey, Nick Watney and Dylan Frittelli—are all returning to action for the first time after quarantining.
After winning last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, Bryson DeChambeau, who also won Memorial in 2018, will be taking his first week off since the tour season picked up again after the hiatus.
The winner of this event will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.116 million share of the $6.2 million purse.
Golf Channel will carry live coverage on Thursday and Friday from 3-6 p.m. EDT. On Saturday and Sunday, Golf Channel will have coverage from 1-3 p.m. EDT, and CBS will follow from 3 -6 p.m EDT.
PGA Tour Live streaming coverage takes place from 6:45 a.m.-6 p.m. EDT on Thursday and Friday and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
